These awards, bestowed annually, honor DCO early career scientists for distinguished performance and unique potential as leaders of the deep carbon science community. Award recipients will receive a certificate and a slab of carbonated Oman ophiolite in a beautiful display box, and will be highlighted on the DCO website.
The DCO seeks to stimulate leadership of the deep carbon science community by early career scientists of outstanding promise.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. The award is open to early career scientists from all countries. For this award, “early career scientist” is defined as any individual within ten years of receiving his/her Ph.D. Exceptions may be made for scientists more than ten years post-Ph.D. in specific circumstances, such as in the case of military service, child rearing, or a change of field. DCO Executive Committee members and staff members are not eligible to receive this award.
Award recipients are selected on the basis of their distinguished performance and unique potential as leaders of the deep carbon science community. Nominators are encouraged to detail the candidate's major scientific achievements, leadership roles and activities, and contributions to DCO’s vision and mission.
Nominations must be submitted via this online nomination form. Please note that the candidate's full CV is required. Multiple nominations are allowed. DCO encourages renomination of candidates who were nominated but not selected in previous years.
A selection committee, appointed by the chair of the DCO Executive Committee, will review nominations and select candidates. Up to four awards are conferred each year.
The deadline for nominations has been extended to 12 October 2018.
The award recipients will be announced at the 2018 AGU Fall Meeting in Washington, DC.
