Many Fall AGU Meeting sessions will feature science relevant to the DCO. For starters:
B58: Novel Microbial Processes in the Deep Biosphere
To understand the planet, we must understand life. Although evidence suggests that a massive reservoir of life on Earth exists in buried marine sediments, in the terrestrial surface, and perhaps in oceanic crust, our collective understanding of the abundance, activity and consequence of life in the 'deep biosphere' is limited. Technological advances coupled with recent dedicated microbiological sampling have provided a wealth of new data and new conclusions. The purpose of this session is to bring together researchers studying life in the subsurface to share advances in our understanding of the deep biosphere, with a focus on new technologies and techniques being used to investigate deep, dark life.
