DCO Convenes Inaugural Meeting of International Science Advisory Committee

The DCO Secretariat hosted the International Science Advisory Committee Meeting and Executive Committee Meeting in Washington, DC from 7-10 February 2012.

Science Advisory CommitteeThe Deep Carbon Observatory (DCO) Secretariat hosted the International Science Advisory Committee Meeting and Executive Committee Meeting at the Carnegie Institution's Broad Branch Road Campus in Washington, DC during the 7-10 February 2012. More than 85 scientists from nine countries participated in the meeting, bringing together for the first time all members of the Scientific Steering Committees of the four DCO Directorates (Deep Energy, Deep Life, Physics and Chemistry of Carbon, and Reservoirs and Fluxes) as well as the DCO Executive Committee. In addition, various guests from academia, the federal government, and industry attended portions of the meeting.

The meeting addressed topics related to the future success and vitality of the entire DCO program. Through numerous presentations and break-out sessions, participants articulated the DCO's 10-year objectives, priorities, strategies for data management, engagement, and open access of DCO findings. Partnership and leveraging opportunities were also discussed and explored.
