Under the general guidance of the Director of the Marine Science Institute, the Analytical Laboratory Manager is responsible for the full range of activities of MSI's research laboratory services located in the Analytical Laboratory at the Marine Science Institute. Works independently directly interacting with a large number of senior faculty and their research associates to identify the scientific questions to be explored and creates effective and innovative methods to explore these questions from an analytical standpoint to the highest scientific standards. Management responsibilities encompass overall responsibility for management of staff and equipment used in conducting complex and high volume chemical analyses.  Responsible for fiscal management of lab including rate & recharge accounts, capital purchases and client relations. Reqs: Bachelor's degree and five years of experience or equivalent combination.  Strong analytical chemistry skills with experience in sample analysis, calibration and data quality control and quality assurance procedures. Strong leadership, supervisory, interpersonal and management skills with the ability to operate independently.  Ability to collaborate effectively with investigators in the development of new analytical methods and routine sample analyses.  Strong financial skills including determination of operating costs, recording of recharge income, and submission of monthly statements on recharge usage.  Familiarity analytical instrumentation such as seawater nutrient analyzers, elemental analyzers and light isotope mass spectrometers.  Note: Fingerprint background check required. $57,108-$72,444/yr.  The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
